Hana Hozhabr Pour
Artist member since 2019
Hana Hozhabr Pour is a painter who lives and works in Toronto. Her works explore interconnected themes such as women and migration, marginalized cultures, dreams and climate justice. These themes often emerge through the process of painting itself as she does not choose or decide what to paint about. This approach is a reflection of her lived experience. The limitations on Kurdish cultural practices, specifically the ban on formal education in her mother-tongue has transformed painting to her ‘language’. Immigration to Canada has further encouraged her to use this language to challenge new limitations and pursue her dreams to contribute to progressive changes in the world. This process helps her to research, pose questions, discover the roots of personal and social challenges and create both ‘meaningful’ and ‘meaningless’ art works. Some of her paintings have been featured in various solo and group exhibitions in Iran and Canada.
